Mad Men, Don Draper, and the Daughters Who Love Them - Part Two

Nooo.

June 28th, 2020

In part two of this two-part episode of Tell Me About Your Father, Erin and Elizabeth look back on the last 5 seasons of the seminal TV series Mad Men, and explore the motivations of 1960s ad exec Don Draper, a father driven to escape a secret life, and the parallels we see in our relationships with our own fathers.

This one leans heavy on Don and Sally's fraught connection as his only daughter comes of age, and the time Elizabeth’s dad read her diary and discovered she knew about his cheating. We also explore the ironic creative process of show creator Matthew Weiner as sexual harassment accusations against him are revealed in 2017, and wonder how the Don Drapers of today will handle their newfound irrelevance in an industry struggling to look itself in the mirror.

Both episodes are dedicated to our mothers.

Thanks for listening and take care,

Erin, Elizabeth and Matthew
