"They go, 'Isn't She Lucky, This Hollywood Girl?'"

This week our pop culture current events show, Tell Me About Your Father: Daddy Issues!, is dedicated in full to the New York Times FX documentary Framing Britney Spears.

The documentary, which debuted on Hulu last weekend, is a 75-minute long look at the dubious rule of Britney’s father, Jamie, over his daughter’s life and finances as her conservator and the fan-led #FreeBritney movement to release her from his grip.

It also looks at Britney’s rise against the powerful current of early 2000s paparazzi tabloid culture and lad-mag misogyny—a time where women jumped on trampolines and had their pain thrown in their face like whipped cream pies by respected network news figures and late-night hosts alike.

We navigate the disappointing players in the story of Britney Jean from her father and brother to Justin Timberlake and Diane Sawyer, as well as highlight the people who have supported her.
